GL is extremely helpful when it comes to preview.

NOT!
So I have to make a trip to Alabama on Monday and thought seeing as I would be in the area I would stop in at Redstone and preview a few things for myself and some other people.

So the call goes like this:
Them: Let me look at our calendar........ We can do the 16th
Me: No that will not work, I am coming from out of state and will only be in the area on the 8th.
them: Okay; let me look at the 8th..... No, but we can do the 9th or 10th
Me:auaauaaua

Sounds like you called too late. You have to figure they have load outs and previews scheduled for others too. I know it sucks and would have been great, I have had the same thing happen too.

A couple of days??? I gave them a full weeks notice. I think it comes down to that they really don't want to work with anybody on anything. They want to sell this crap without showing it, handling it, and often without taking any pictures of it.

It isn't like they have 1000s of people charging the gate to view 150 items, most of which are the exact same thing. They just like it better if people bid without seeing stuff because then we bid higher for junk we would have passed on otherwise.

GL works with limited staff, blame that on upper management. This is an auction operation, not a retail brick & mortar store. You may well be a real buyer but, how do they seperate you from the tire kickers? And exceptions are made for the true volume buyers, not for the penny ante players such as the the majority of members on this site, myself included.

That's one thing I don't like about Redstone. At Ft. Campbell I have aways just showed up unannounced within their business hours and they will let me look or loadout. I even showed up one time when GL was closed ( hoping I could just look over the fence) and a guy with DRMO let me preview.

Warner Robins AFB is like that too. Just show up, no appointment needed.

Redstone USED to be like that, but they have lost some personnel, and the number of pieces going through there has increased. I used to be able to pick up anytime I came through the area, but now it takes about a week to schedule. It's also easier to get a pickup time if they know you don't need a lot of "hand-holding" to get loaded.

All of the people I have dealt with at Redstone have been extremely nice. They are just under-staffed. One of the guys was laid off a couple of weeks ago. I believe they only have 2-3 people doing previews and loadouts. There are a lot of smaller lots (like transmissions) that keep them busy loading all day. I have previewed quite a few times and though I may not get an appointment the next day, they are always helpful when I do get on site. If you need me to take a look at something, let me now. I live 3 miles from the DRMO lot and can get on post easily.

I was at Redstone today and made a pickup....went smooth and I was allowed to preview since I had an appointment and someone else had not shown up.
Teresa is a gem to work with but the Head Shed out west has cut her staff (even while shipping in a butt load of stuff). The phone was ringing off the hook while I was there.
I hate that you had a bad experience but normally they go the extra mile to help the customer. I have never had a bad experience there.

I'll agree the people there will go out of their way to help you but it is frustrating with the appointments sometimes.

When Wreckerman posted it reminded of a pickup I made one time there. I knew he was going there that day and wanted to meet up with him. I called Teresa and asked for an appointment. She said they were booked up for that day. I told her the reason I wanted that day and time was to meet up with Wreckerman. She said "well in that case, come on". Guess Wreckerman has some pull around there.

I don't know about pull......but taking a box of doughnuts in once in a while is a good way to win friends.

I just treat folks the way I want to be treated and don't get pushy if they are covered up.

One of the reasons I get in and out easy is because I have a military ID.....and I have been a regular customer up there for several years.

Unfortunatly a few bad apples have screwed things up for the rest of us.....I used to be able to roam at will to look at vehicles.....thanks to thieving and misbehaving by some people they have tightened up a lot. Now you have to have an escort every where you go.
This takes manpower they don't have.

I agree with the escorts because of the property security issue. I do think that if previews are going to be restricted to certain days of the week that they should post that on the listing instead of "by appointment only" That way those of us who live 500 miles away and arrange our business around the days they are open for preview instead of thinking... "oh if I call them a week out it will be okay". Her issue with me coming on the 8th was that their preview days for next week are the 9th and 10th. In days passed any business day on a manned site was a fine day to preview.... now apparently they have switched to a similar policy as the unmanned sites.

I can't complain much about the corporate office; they are always as helpful as possible.... The other sites are getting worse and worse every year.
