For the longest time I just thought my horn did not work. until my baby girl was playing around in the 85 M1009. She hit the horn and it sounded off. I questioned whether it was my truck that did it. But I tested and realized it doesn't work while running but does turned off. Any suggestions?

RE: HOrn won

That's a first. I've never heard of that happening before. Check out the unit maintenance manual in the Troubleshooting thread at the top of the forum. It has the wiring diagrams in it, your gonna have to check the wire running to the horn switch in the steering column for power (should be constant hot).

First guess would be the ignition switch on top off the steering column.

Does it work with the key on-engine off? or just the key off-engine off.

Check the ground switch up under the dash. Drivers side. There should be a double prong attached to the side wall. It is up a bit, so a small flashlight is helpful. IF it is connected, pull it off and clean the connector. When I did, the wire came off the connector. OH, so that may be my problem. I put a new connector on, cleaned the terminal and all sorts of my electrical issues.

So a quick check under the dash might give you an answer. OR NOT.

I wish people would file a followup status report when they ask a question.

I agree, a simple follow up post would help everyone(that reads the thread later).

I consider it, polite forum etiquette.
