LITTLE KNOWN SECRETS FOR THE 8xx series gen sets

For whatever reason tonight I was searching Ebay for MEP parts and pricing well i do know why ? because I have several tons of parts and they need to go, more on that later however..
ButI saw a well known seller offering s 30kw generator head only for 600.00 and remembered the secrets on these Marelli generators , we used them exclusively in the later 805/6 B models replacing the most often used Marathon gen heads, we get into this argument ever few years over the crazy 10 lead sets and how often worthless they seem for individual private users for the lack of offering a 12 lead output wherein we can rewire emm for 1 [single phase] phase outputs.
The Marelli BLACK in color and a distinctive ass end look Vs. the Gray Marathon heads ARE 12 LEAD true and true when you look at the few pictures the seller includes 1 is showing a black in color rectangle CONNECTION box atop the outer body of the actual generator round case, and yes ONLY 10 leads protrude from that box plus 2 smaller Field Wires for exciting the actual generator... BUT if you pop off that cover on the RECTANGLE BOX woof inside ready at hand are all 12 output leads coming from the actual STATOR windings not 10 as we know the Marathon sets bring out, now don't get confused here, Marelli indeed only brings out 10 stator winding leads , but inside the rectangle box they tie together # 10 11 and 12 just bringing out 1 wire as typical MEP calls for ...But or while its not as simple as i have made it sound within an hour of semi skilled work you can go inside the rectangle box and bring out all 12 STATOR winding wires plus the usual 2 F1 and F2 wires..
Some will protest here and say well its still a 30 or 60 kw set but that is what the set is rated at in extream conditions.. I have consistantly seen the 30 kw sets produce 45kw with no ADVERSE effects and tested over a protracted period of time , likewise for the 60kw Marelli sets easily 75 kw output at 1 phase or 3 phase configurations and you can my words BLOCK LOAD the sets at 45 or 75 kw and they will readily accept the block load... BUT you gotta go in a get rid of all the crap safety features and get back to basic generator operating parameters not the pulmagated MEP shit and of course the SCREENs are crap by now anyhow .. We were expressly told the screens do not need to exceed a 10 year life cycle as well the internal computer. to date my best recall is 23 of the 30kw conversions to single phase and I'd guess 50 plus of the 60kw up to 75 kw rating not a one has been brought back for any type voltage issues or temp problems, read the engine DATA plates on those JD engines and study the radiator specs we had to use, as you would expect but most often foo fod here some will tell us oh no you cant or shouldn't do that , bullshit those are tuff engines well built and same for the generator heads, the crap comes in the stack of safety or overload features we had to build into the sets...

Now switch thinking for a minute and go to the most often seen MARATHON generator heads, those are easy to make 12 lead sets all 12 STATOR wires are brought together at the ass end typically in the 7 oclock and 12 olock position as viewed looking into the ass end with the back carrier bearing plate removed, it affords any decent motor shop the ability to go in and using a heat gun or torch cut loose the epoxy tape and varnish and break out the cluster connection of 10 11 and 12 into three just regular output wires, the actual generator heads are the same rather 10 11 and 12 or brought out individually or clumped together as ONE the shop here in San Antonio can make this conversion is typically 45-to 60 minutes and charge a very reasonable price as well silver soldering and re-insulating everything back, where you are just left with the crap job of getting the ass end plate back on , the 60 kw sets or hardest because the actual plate sits typically 1/2-3/4" inch below the last fork pocket slot and its easier to just reconcile yourself the loosening the back bolts on the actual generator frame and jack up the ass end of the set above the fork pocket whereby the plate will just pop off and then you have unrestricted access to the real windings, but after you do a few or one of emm whatever tips i offer you have learned and made your own improvements and when or if you do a second one it soon just becomes easy ass to to do and wham you got a real 12 lead set...

Getting rid of the SCREEN is easy as well I have enuff conversion kits we were offering and you reuse the GAC Voltage regulator and Speed boards and away you go, GAC made those brutal tuff and hard to screw up or break, they just don't go bad.. you gotta really do some stupid stuff to make those boards go bad..

Im retiring from this business for the second time and am clearing out 6 mini warehouses and have just tossed away 71 screens in to the dumpster, they are just not worth the frustration and effort and then still a piece of crap with sky high support screw emm go with modern stuff like the TG-600A controllers and easy to program and get on with your life, then you have a bad ass set with every safety feature you can want or need and they become DEPENDABLE again.. the JD Engine and either of the generators are made to last and parts readily at hand.
The hardest set to convert is the 15kw generator head its built bass akwards and a tuff to work on its just the generator the engines are fine ..
In this clean out process I have plenty of parts new and used and fuel hoses, ground rods and hammers volage regulators scads of meters and still 10 sets in various stages of something so if you got questions or dont understand the Marelli 12 lead write me and i can likely walk you thru it.. use my regular email : libbysales@austin.rr.com please

have fun: mac/mc.
