Good Afternoon - sorry for the delay in the update. 4 new batteries and the truck started right up and everything seems to be working as it should be. Of course while driving it the throttle return spring snapped so it really wanted to take off - thank god my booted foot fit under the pedal to retract it.... :oops:

Now that you have good batteries in it, start it up and measure the voltage at the batteries(gnd terminals to 12v and 24v terminals). Your 12v reading should be very close to exactly 1/2 of the 24V reading. IE: 14.2 and 28.4. The alternator should maintain this relationship regardless of load changes so check it with no lights and all lights turned on. If it does not, you may have an alternator or connection issue Between batts and alt. Mis/under charging is the biggest killer of batteries so would hate to see your new batts have a short life...
