m1009 and 35's

I have had a m1009 for 4 years now and been coming to this site for all my questions. Usually I can find the answer somewhere on this site. I cant really find a definet on this question. I finally have the money to start doing some things to the truck. It is bone stock right now. i would like to put a 4" lift and 35's on it. Am I going to blow up the trans with the stock 3.08 10 bolts. If I do put the lift and tires on I will put a large trans cooler too. I will not be wheeling this truck just drive to work on the highway 30 miles each way. I see guys that have m1009's on this site and 35's. I just dont know if its a bad idea. i love that the truck gets 23 mpg... with higher geared axles i am afraid im gonna loose some of those mpg on top of what i loose from the 35's

Patience is a virtue my friend. The folks with the answers may have been out with the family or enjoying a nice steak on the barbie. My case is I have to work. The 35" tires will do little to hurt your 400 Turbo. I woudl add an extrnal cooler but I'd do that no matter what. MPG will probably suffer a bit and power out of the hole will as well. You are adding rotatng weight which costs energy, increasing the aerodynamic drag which also casts energy. The 10 bolts are not very strong so I'd keep a good eye on bearings and such. With proper maintenance you should be fine. You will also probably notice a decrease in braking ability attributed to the same factors.

Thanks so much. So the maitinance u talk of is changing differential fluid. Or did u just mean general maintenance.

I would say more frequent bearing maintenance mostly. Those seem to suffer a shorter life from the larger tires more than the other items. Perhaps a bi-annual bearing pack in the front and inspection in the rear. Other than that you should be OK.
