It will start with difficulty then idle for 20-30 mins. And if I try to drive it then it runs for about 5 mins. Then quits. Then it is hard to start. It acts like not getting fuel

You answered your own question. Figure out why you have a fueling issue. It could be air leaks on top of the fuel tank, bad fuel pump, plugged fuel filter. Verify no bubbles entering the injection pump by temporarily placing clear tygon hose between filter and injection pump. Worst case you have a bad injection pump.

If the truck has been sitting for a bit then it is going to be the injection pump It happens on a lot of those engines. I dunno what is is about that 6.5.

It is more than likely sucking air on start up. Replace all your return hoses and go from there.

Shutdown after running could be a bad injection pump and the solenoid is shutting off when it gets hot.

A diesel shop will have to test the pump and injectors.
