Does anyone know if the oil pan in the M35A3 with a CAT 3116 is a standard oil pan, or do you have a part number I can use?

Someone hit a tree stump or something in ours and bashed the bottom of the sump up so that the drain hole is no longer the lowest part of the pan. I may try to hammer it back out but I need a back up plan as well.

The parts manual says:

NSN 2815013983364
Part # 108-1233
OIL PAN

I googled the part number and couldn't find the pan that matches it. Getting a hold of your local Cat dealer might be your best shot. The engine is supposed to take around 5 gallons of oil, so the pan should accommodate that.

Any Cat 3116 pans I find are quite pricey - a few hundred bucks anyway. It might be worth taking it somewhere to get it professionally fixed - maybe someone can fix it for less than a new pan. But that's just me. I don't have enough confidence in un-denting an oil pan without putting a hole or crack in it :p

The oil pan on the 3116 engine is a Cat Pan A. If the pan is in good shape, except for the bottom being pushed in, you should be able to fix it yourself. I've repaired several oil pans with damage that sounds similar to yours. After removing the oil pan, I gook a thick block of wood the proper shape and placed in in the pan with the pan sitting on top of another block of wood. Two or three hard whacks with a large hammer flattened the caved in bottom. The critical thing is to make certain that the sealing area is still flat so that it still seals against the block. However, if the damage to the pan has the metal kinked, it can easily split when doing the repair.

There is an aftermarket Cat Pan A oil pan for sale on Ebay for $326.44 and $61.20 for shipping. I would definitely try to repair the one you have first.
