cause that is what it came with from the factory.Military standard was Silicone Dot 5(NOT Dot 5.1Different goo).Do not mix Dot 5 and Standard Dot 3 or any other breed.You can change it over but you have to completely flush out ALL the Dot 5.Also,Dot 5 does not absorb moisture like Dot 3 does.Kinda like putting oil in water.They separate.

If you want you can purge the whole system and rinse with alcohol and blow out with dry compressed air and refill with Dot 3. The system was designed in 1949 to use Dot 3 and the conversion to Dot 5 Army wide was a rather recent event...like within the last 20 years...The fluid is called BFS in the lube order ....Brake Fluid, Silicone
