You mentioned a tractor. Maybe with hydraulics on it? It might cost you a hundred bucks in hoses, but you could disconnect the "in" and "out" on the winch and with some adapters (small hydraulic hose would work) you should be able to power the winch. I wouldn't try to power the entire crane. Just the boom winch. Maybe? Seems like it would be a "controlled environment" that way...
Fabulous idea. i didn't think about that. i got a bigger tractor with the rear hyd hook ups several yrs ago, and have yet to use them. now thats thinking outside the box.

Great! You just need to sneak up on giving that winch power from the tractor. Not sure which port is "in" and which one is "out" other than to look at them by size. Generally smaller is pressure and larger is return.

One of the things I want to add to my M936 is a hydraulic hose reel. Siamese hoses with quick connectors. And then the hunt really begins. Hydraulic impact wrench, hydraulic cutters, hydraulic power for a jack of some sort. I will end up needing a trailer just to drag all the toys along :)
