There is supposed to be an access window and pointer on the side of the bell housing on the opposite side from the starter.

remove the plastic center plug on the front grill insert 1/2 inch socket and rotate clockwise to bring it into veiw on the flywheel.

I found the window with the pointer, now I will look for the plastic plug.

You may not have the plastic plug. The hole referred to is on the cover for the cooling fan on the "Front" of the generator set (Front being the end of the enging opposite of the control panel, I know it's backwards, but that's what the TM designates as the front)

I did not think of the fan nut. Was not sure it was strong enough to turn the engine over. Will give it a try. Sorry for all the FNG questions, always learning somthing new.
