Yep. The LOG system started using them long ago to track "things". Could be cargo, could be equipment. They are not considered "throw away", but are cheap and they often get tossed. We had a Multi Pack box, (4X4X4) in or Tech Supply that was the place to toss them when they turned up. When the box was full, maybe 600-800 of them, off it went to the supply system, to be reused.

If they are used for tracking vehicles and equipment, it would be interesting to TRACK all of those that were tossed. Hmmm. Sounds like a great investigative television program in the making.
It just an RFID that tags the vehicles as entering the base etc when it goes by the scanner and when it leaves. Not necessarily a tracking device like NANO.

We had a RFID product for a customer that was the "box tag" for shipments. Was a nationwide company that shipped and received and the tags were queried to verify what came and went out of their warehouses. Neat job for a printer to be involved with!!
Their company spent several million dollars on the scanners and wireless infrastructure. Not quite sure what happened with that project.
It was like a lot of a military projects. One day it is there, and as quickly as it came - it disappeared.

Correct. But the RFID is used for tracking. Its just not used for the sort of tracking NANO is. RFID is for control of what, went, where, in the logistic system. It may be different now, but before I got out, and later as a contractor, every single piece of equipment, and every single multi pack box had one in it. And sometimes individual packages in a multi pack had one, when it was a controlled item. Shipping containers, engine and transmission cans all had them. Miss-shipments is a huge problem in the military. RFID was meant only for the Logistical folks to use. And its not just to monitor what comes and goes on base. It applies also to logistic operations down to company level. When a customer complained that they had an ESD, Estimated Ship Date, and a Document Number that showed that the item had been delivered, and received, that was the first place the Tech Supply people looked. RFID. I was in a unit that was responsible for DS/GS maintenance and Logistics for all Air Defense in Europe, Down Range, and for most of our NATO partners who had Patriot and Hawk. The first two years RFID was used, it paid for itself, in the ADA world.
