My HMMWV has "US Army NG4D4B" markings at the left and right area by the seats in 3" vinyl. Anyone know where it may have been?

Also, with the standards set by the camouflage regs, the vehicle's number was not supposed to be visible unless one looked in the cab. Usually the military registrations used to be done in black on the driver and passengers doors down low, so you had to open the doors to verify. I guess since then they have moved the registration numbers to the dashboard in this case. Live & Learn! Have a Great Evening!
Thank you very much for providing such valuable information. The PS magazine article would lead one to believe that the registration number has something to do with emissions control. That is incorrect. What happened is that between the production of non-emissions M151s and emissions M151, the registration number format changed to the Nxxxxx system. The Nxxxxx registration number is as meaningless as the license plate number on your personal vehicle.
Thanks, I learned something here. The “02” system was used 1968 until 1972. Then the “N” system was introduced.
I need to amend my previous post. The second character in the “Nxxxx” system DOES indicate a vehicle family. I don’t have a decoder chart, unfortunately.Thank you very much for providing such valuable information.
Many M151 series enthusiasts believe that this "NB" is given to Emission Control vehicles.
Indeed, I was wondering about an Emission Control vehicle with an old registration number starting with "02," but your information cleared it up.
In the previous post, "NB04KG" is M151A2 and "NG02TG" is M561 GAMA GOAT, but is "NB" the registration number symbol that replaces the old "02" and "NG" the registration number that replaces "03" or "04"?
I wonder what "NB" and "NG" stand for.
