New horn button and wheel

Here's the scoop. I bought a new steering wheel for my M35A2. The wheel I took off is the old type. The new wheel's horn button is a self enclosed deal with a new lead and hardware.

Has anyone changed out their steering wheel and horn button? I tried to trace my old horn wire, but it does not come out of the column and seems to go into the steering box. The new wire is not long enough to reach the steering box. Should I just solder the new wire to the old lead and use it that way?

Does anyone have the info on what TM will have the install procedure?

Thanks,

Warren

Warren,

for some reason when the army made the conversion kist for the new horn button on the duece, the wire was made to connect to the old lead. soldering and heat shrink tubing is your best route. The wire for the horn goes all the way thru the steering box, you should be able to see the wire come out of the front of the gear box with a rubber plug/gromment holding it in. You can use a piece of lacing wire to hook onto the wire if you thinking about pulling the wire from the column. it feeds from bottom to top. I've convert4ed a few dueces from the old style horn button to the new style horn button. Good luck :D
