Pre Lube Pump

Here is a picture of the replacement pre lube oil pump. The old home made one burnt out. So I will try this rather sturdy looking pump after fitting it to my REO camper tommorrow. With further pictures of it's placing.

what exatcly is the reason for the pre oiler, i know what they do but is it really neccesary
