Refurbishing Data Plates

What is the best way to renew the black coating on these old plates ?
I'm wondering if screen printing would be effective ?
As an aside, note that the plate seems to be the old style with the tall 3/4 on the top line, and also that in the second line the stamped 1 in B1 appears to have been overstamped with a 2.

Take the plate to a local graphic shop. I had a new data plate made for my M373 trailer.

I want to refurbish the original plate, not replace it.

Not really... Trying to print over the old metal would be a real drag.
It would require cleaning and in the end would be no better than starting with fresh metal.

I respectfully disagree. It would be original even if somewhat scruffy.
