Let me just say this, this site is going to very useful. Got a 70 kiezer jeep m35 last January for $500. A steal I think with winch, but non turbo. The injecter pump went bad in it so I bought it as is. I have a rebuilt pump for it but not installed. I have had it at a guys shop since last March. He keeps coming up with excuse after excuse and Iam really wanting it done . So I was wondering how much of a problem it is to change out myself.
Guess I should kinda introduce myself, sense it is my first post here. My name is Glen Frydendall, and I live in Salina, Kansas and Iam a machinist for Philips Lighting. 37 yrs old, married with six kids, three boys, three girls. Iam curretly building a 2|5 scale m1 abrams tank, all steel no plywood or plexiglass on this one. Ive always wanted my own duece eversence my dad got a 51 GMC 6x6 for feeding cattle. Now that Ive got one I would very much like to have some fun with it.

Thanks for any input, Madmachinistm1a1

Very easy to remove and replace. The manuals cover it step by step.

Firts thing is to set the timing marks and then starte removing the unit.

The hardest part for me on my first one was setting the gear timing on reinstall. Just take your time, take some pictures for reference and ask questions.

The second, third and others where much easier. I can change one out is a couple of hours.

Welcome aboard. I heartily suggest removing the left fender. It makes the job so much easier.

Welcome Aboard..This is a wonderful site for woes like IP installs and frozen air packs. I just helped my son install and IP in a friends deuce. Pull the radiator. You need room. Read the TM. Have timing set, on IP and the motor, before the re- install. Be careful with overtightening the IP discharge lines. Send a pm to Powerhousedeuce, and he can cut the learning curve on the install. Oh yea, an extra person sure makes it easy.

While I think it is too much effort to pull the radiator for working on the IP, it would make it convenient to swap out all your hoses. If the history of the truck is unknown, it would be worth it in my book.

Rob does your book come with pics and crayons. Sorry good mood today.
Yes it would make easer.
But no one asked what and why do you think your whole pump is bad?
If it was just a head change might that not be a way to go.
Are we shure it is the IP?
Just make shure like said when you change it out that before you pull it out all timming marks can be seen.( three of them) The one under the shutdown cover has to be looked at with a mirrior if you dont pull the fender like old farts might do. Sorry still good mood.

PS If your man has not done it he might not know how. Think I might rethink him or at least make shure who does the work has done the reading.

I hate pulling crap you don't need to, Warthog helped me put on my IP and we didn't pull the radiator or a fender, it weren't that tough.

You may not need to, I do! Not as mobile as I used to be. Pulling a left fender is a 15 minute job on my non heated trucks, well worth it.

When you get it done and if you have some governor parts left over, drop me a line. I'm still having trouble getting my non-turbo running properly. It's definately at least partly related to the governor and the FDC linkage.

Arlyn

PS if you decide to bypass the FDC see this thread, the instructions normally followed have a couple of gotchas:
