RT-524 help/troubleshooting

A few months ago i got my RT524 wired up and functioning in my 1123. Recently while demonstrating it to a friend, the speaker began to emit static when im transmitting. It has continued to do this since. Squelch is functioning properly, and the static only emits when transmitting. Transmission is normal, and clear. Fan blows. But everytime i key up, static from the speaker. Any ideas as to why?
