sign kit, vehicle class

Just got a new sign kit, vehicle class . Never installed one and no instructions. What holds the numbers on the studs? The "C" plate goes on top of them but does not look very secure. Also, on 998 HMMWV I've seen pictures of placement on right side of hood, grill, and brush guard. What's correct? Thanks, from a new guy.
