Steering box M809 series
Have an M816 with a 1/2 turn of play in the steering box.
looking for a replacement or info on adjusting the slop out of one.

You should be able to adjust for less free play. Check the TM and make sure you have lube in the steering box.

been searching the TM's, only found a replacement procedure so far....

Check public library for heavy truck repair manuals. I'm sure there is some applicable information out there.

Every steering box I’ve ever tried adjusting was a failure. You can adjust the free play out when it’s centered but then as you turn it off center in either direction it gets tighter and tighter. If you keep trying to turn it more you can break the case or a gear. The only real solution is to have it rebuilt or swap it out with a good one. There are rebuilding companies you can send it too.

So far unable to turn the adjusting screw either way, 1/4 turn is all I can move it ( at least while installed on the truck.
