Towing Questions

Can an m1008 be expected to repeatedly and reliably tow trailers that are close to its maximum tow load? Is the 6.2 strong enough to tow those loads at a minimum of 55 mph, (yes, I know that's pretty much the max speed anyhow)? Is the true strength of these vehicles in the rear end?

Well the 6.2 is a good engine but if towing 5k+ pounds your not going to go 55 up the hills. You got to remember its only 155 HP and 300 TQ give or take. That is about 1/2 of a stock Duramax. The front and rear axles are about the best you can get besides going to a military 2.5 ton axle. there TOUGH! Very large brakes front and rear with a hydro boost you will have no problem stopping whatever you are towing. There good trucks but remember they are 20+ years old. YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEMS! I had to replace every single rubber part in my 09 and the trans took a dump too. If your looking for a tow rig get someting newer. If your looking for a fixer upper and going to use it to tow stuff from time to time your in luck... But you will have things that will fail and have to be replaced. I have had a hand full of cucv's now and it takes me arounf 5k miles to work all the bugs out and make it a good driver.
