All,

I'm going to be dropping the tranny fluid in my truck in the next week or so and I will be putting the Hy-trans fluid in, I would like some feedback on the product that I looking to purchase.

Might be a silly bunch of questions, but what year truck is this?
Automatic transmission? Recently purchased?

Does your vehicle currently have transmission fluid in it today?

LOL.. not silly, I should have put that info in.

It's a 1952 GMC m135 with the Hydra auto trans, the truck was my dads and I'm unsure as to what fluid was in the tranny, it looks like ATF but I don't know for sure.

Since it is a GMC and an Automatic, my best guess would be Dextron. Since neither of us know for sure, I went out an poked around for a little more information. Found a 2010 post that specifically mentions Hy-Tran. Link for that is below.

I also found mention of folks using SAE 30 in their M211/M135 transmissions. I would guess you already pulled the transmission dipstick and found red tinted oil that seems pretty thin on it? We definitely don't want to mix oil and transmission fluid!

I did pull the stick and it had red fluid on it, so definitely don't want to mix, It seems like quiet a few folks are running Hy-trans, I just hope that I'm buying the right one. The gentlemen that runs Alfa Heaven also recommends International harvester Hy-trans transmission fluid, he says that he's been running these truck with that fluid for 30+ years.

I'll drop the fluid that is in the truck this weekend and add the Hy-trans, I'll let you know how it goes.

There are oil analysis companies that could tell you the particulate amount in the sample. They could compare one to another for you too, but thinking about it you would have to have a dozen (new oil) samples to test. Maybe not such a good deal after all...

Might be that the International Harvester version has more anti-wear agents in it. Don't know enough to say for sure, but you don't want to load it up with something that makes your clutches start slipping. The guy at Alfa Heaven might be right. Just don't know, but either way sounds reasonable.

I'll look into the oil analysis it won't hurt to see what the results might be if I have enough samples.
