Transmission not engaging

I’m running into an issue and I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this. If I park my 87 M998 on an incline overnight occasionally in the morning the transmission will not shift into reverse or drive unless I go back and forth a few times between the two. I have good fluid levels and this never happens if I park on a flat surface. And input would be helpful.
