VRC47 setting links in the MT 1029 and MT 1898

Hi guys: I'm installing an RT524A and R442, I know radio A (524) has to have the link in the 1029 mount in the direct setting, and radio B(442) normally has the mount 1898 link in the remote setting requiring Radio A to be on to use radio B. My question is can I put the link on the radio B mount to direct so I can use radio B without turning on radio A, or will it make no difference and I'll have to turn radio A on regardless to turn on radio B, the Tm doesn't really indicate? (assuming normal power cables CX-4720 to the radio A mount and CX-4721 from radio A mount to radio B mount.) I'm gonna guess I would need to drop the CX-4721 cable and install a second CX-4720 from the batteries to the radio B mount to use them separately?

Thanks guys if you can shed light on this. Also, I plan on hooking up my VIC-1 system to the Radio A mount via CX-4723. Will the Am1780 have power without radio A being on?

You only need to connect the CX-4720 to the MT-1029 mount and the CX-4721 between it and the MT-1898 for power,

In the MT-1898 connecting link E13 to E14 powers the receiver directly from the batteries. Connect E12 to E13 when powering from the AM-1780.

So no matter what with the 4720 and 4721 cable setup, there's no way to power radio B independently without A being on. I will have the Am1780 powered by the MT-1029 with a CX-4723 cable at J501, Does this also require radio A to be on to power the Am1780 or is always live, so I could use the intercom without turning on the radio? Thanks for your help. I couldn't find-35-9 TM here or on radio nerds.

EDIT: I hooked up the CX-4720 cable to MT-1029 and CX4723 from MT-1029 to the AM1780, It's live all the time so that answers my question about using the intercom without the radios on.

Next question, Where can I get a cable spanner wrench to adjust the angles of the connectors, I have some pretty sharp bends in my cables to make the connections.


I opened up the MT1029 and MT-1898 up to check the links, I don't have links in mine. A single wire apparently chooses direct or not. I'm not sure on the MT-1898 what it is set on there's only one marking and it's unclear which screw it refers to! Guess I'll find out when I hook it up.
