Thanks for an answer. Do you have any pics?Ok - this gets complicated, and I am a novice so please bare with me.
We have two situations - 12V and 24V.
For the 24V, I tapped into the ignition switch "Run" position. Please add a fuse, fuse block, or circuit breaker for any of the 24V accessories you which to power. Using this method, I am only talking about powering very small amperage stuff. Nothing huge like a winch!
For 12V, what I did is used a 24V 40 Amp relay. The trigger goes to the run position on the ignition switch (fused of course) and then to ground. The load goes from either your 24 to 12 volt converter, or to the +12V battery post, fused or better still, circuit breaker protected. I used a fuse block on the output side to connect various 12V low amp stuff.
Fo higher amp 24V stuff, used a 24V 40 Amp relay. The trigger goes to the run position on the ignition switch (fused of course) and then to ground. The load goes from 24V battery post, fused or better still, circuit breaker protected. I used a 24V fuse block on the output side to connect various 24V higher amp stuff.
So in my case, I have two 24V 40AMP relays, and one fuse block for 12V and another fuse block for 24V and two circuit breakers, one for 12V and another for 24V battery source.
One thing I will point out is you should try to mount all the above high up, perhaps under the dash. I put mine in the battery box and that fills up with water so not good. Even if you buy water resistant stuff, the are all Chinesium and I am sure they will fail when submerged.
That is how I did it. No fires yet. Batteries are ok, but I have a 200 AMP generator with the 12V lead. Of course the more experience folks will have better ways of rigging this.
