Sounds like your drum seal is out. New winch doesn't mean much when it sits for years after the install and doesn't get used. The seals will dry out and go bad. My M816 crane winch is also leaking. Seems to be a common thing.

winch leaking

You would not happen to know the part number or where I can get new seals from? I hate stuff that leaks. The engine has 3500 miles since it was new in 85 and 360 hours on it. Everything else works on it also. Runs like a champ but I will be installing a turbo on it before long to help it more.

Try the TM for the part number. Either that or pull it and have the local seal and bearing place match it up.
