What was in it originally, something to do with the comms?

On the civil trucks it its a 12v power hook up for a rear dome light in the cap.

The hole with the grommet is for the antenna cable. I hadn't noticed the other large hole with the two adjacent screw holes before. I'll try to remember to see if my trucks have it, too.

^^CORRECT. I have a civil blazer, its for the wires for the rear dome light that you have to disconnect before removing the cap. Unneeded for the CUCV, but still there because its the same cap as the civilian blazer.
