Year of construction

Hello,

I have a problem to determine the year of construction of my Humvee. The German Vehicle Registration Office used the approval to the road traffic as the year of construction. In my case, it's 1989. But I'm pretty sure, that my Humvee is older. Are there any characteristics, which can give informations about the year of construction?

It's a M 1026 slantback, 8 Cyl. Diesel 6.2 L, 3-speed automatic (Transmission). It has the "small" mirrors (click the link for a picture). The serial number has 5 numbers.

If your left rear fender has a aluminum data plate attached, then the body is 1985 or early 1986. You 6 digit serial number will also provide a clue as to the approximate year. 00XXXX would be around 85-86, 0xxxxx would be 87-89ish, xxxxxx would be 90 to present.

It's 0xxxxx, ****! Now I have no chance to get a registration as vintage auto in the next 7 years ... :-(

But thank you very much for your help! :)
