Military use for 6x6 and 8x8 amphibious ATV's?

Other than the 8x8 made by Hustler as a tank trainer - has anyone else seen any military use for the 6x6 ATV's like the Attex, Hustler, Argo? I've seen one photo of a 6x6, it's the background of a shot of the tank trainer - has what looks like a radio mount, rollbar, etc. Could be a Hustler from the '70's or early '80's, but it's unsure.

Anyone have any leads on info, other than Richard at Route6x6, and the 6x6World forum?:?::?::?::?:

The Kidd ATV was designed and built for use in Vietnam. However I don't belielve any ever made it over there. 8x8, hydrostatic transmission running chains to the wheels, steel hull simple to work on and operate. I rode in one in the mid 70"s. Very capable and tought vehicle. I know a guy that used one in his construction business to haul fuel to his dragline. I have a partial owners manual and some other info he gave me. I would love to have one, but they are pretty rare.
I believe there is someone that is rebuilding them for sale.

There is also a new vehicle that is simular, the Hydratrek. Big, powerful, expensive, around $60,000 +. I believe the military may have a few.

I had an Attex as a kid. My grandfather had it on his farm to work with cattle. It was a great vehicle. We use to ride it in the pasture and across the lake.

I have seen Max for sale on GL, and Argo (maybe).

Ok, so we've got the Kidd, the Hydratrek, and of course the Supacat. I've got to dig out my Crismon's and see what he mentioned. None of the museums I've written to have bothered to respond, then again they might not even be able to afford PIO's at this point.

Thanks for the info guys. Still would like anyone else to chime in.

Also, regarding that Kidd, yep, they're pretty rare. I've got a Hustler and an Attex myself, and I've seen the Hustler used as an MV. Therefore the interest from me. At least one of the members on another forum I frequent has a Kidd, and I've also seen one dolled up as an MV. Neat vehicles.

I just traded for a KIDD. It runs but needs work. Haven't found a parts source yet.

Nice score!

Your best chance is heading over to the rest of the 6x6 and 8x8 AATV guys on 6x6 world. I'll pm you a link if you'd like, don't know what the policies here are currently about "advertising" other forums.

I think there's one or two other owners there.

route6x6.com is another decent source. Attex built an 8x8 used as a tank trainer back in the 60's. I have an old article about them. Certain NATO SOF used MAXII and IV in the 90s as well.

Do you have any links to information about that SOF use of the MaxII and IV's? I haven't seen that info before.

I also have a KID 8x8. The two suppliers that were around are now gone, shonson.com and kid8x8.com, they are both done for. Hopefully whoever bought the stuff from them will resurface and start selling parts. They are great machines and hope that the parts done dry up.
