Deuce VIN Question

Hey All,
Maybe its been answered but I can't seem to find it so here goes. Is the frame VIN on a Deuce actually stamped into the metal? My future Deuce has a matching frame VIN but it looks like its only stamped in the paint. I would sand down the paint to check it myself but I'm afraid if I do this and its not stamped into the metal, I'm going to have a BIG problem. Here is a pic of the number.


It might be hard to see but any help would be greatly appreciated.

They must have just hit it again after painting or something. Should I sand it down or wait for the inspector to look at it and see what he says?

Leave it be, you want it to look unmolested.

Yep! If it looks molested, and certainly in Kalifornia, you could lose your truck permanently to the state.

Uh oh. I kinda scratched a bit of the paint out of the first and last number of the second set of numbers because I couldn't see them. I hope that wont be an issue.

You're OK. What they are looking for is evidence you welded up the old numbers and stamped in new ones. Rust and old paint are clues you have not done this.
