Has anyone else noticed that the foam surround on the air cleaner reduces intake noise?

Don't have one so I don't know. I can say though that upon switching to a less restrictive k&n filter intake noise went up. Considerably.
Which would lead me to assume the addition of a foam dust screen/pre cleaner would indeed lessen intake noise.
I was actually surprised just how much more loud the noise was after the k&n. At first the kid in me thought it was kind of cool but now, to be honest, I could do with out the noise.
