Will not fit without at least an 11 inch drop from the bottom of the frame. Ugh!!

I had a chance this weekend to mount the Curt 15400 hitch on my M923. The quality of the hitch is excellent and fit well. I dropped the height of the hitch by adding 3" spacers between the hitch and frame (10" total drop). I am very happy with the results.
I removed the middle rivet from the rear crossmember and used the hole for the rear most hitch mounting point. I drilled the other holes in the frame to align with the hitch mounting locations. 9/16 grade 8 bolts were used for the attachment.

It looks OK but in the real world will it be OK?
If you take a plumb bob and plumb down from the rearmost part of the truck
how far is it from the rear most part of the truck to the CenterLine of the hitch pin?
An extended class 2 solid bar will only do so much then the Lever/Fulcrum
effect comes into play and you will bend stuff and QUICK.
I decided against that type of install for just that reason and I designed
a hitch system that uses an off the shelf 16,000Lbs Class2 crossbar
w/ my drops and gussetts. It is expensive to reproduce and not
an install for the meek. Inevitably, folks ask HOW much, just my
raw parts are about $600 plus you buy all the cross bar and
new mil spec nuts and blts and paint etc and you have d
a professional fabricator do the install to your states
laws.

I would get rid of the spacers. They add a lot of stress to the bolts.
The curt 15605 has about 3/4" more drop and if properly mounted will clear the existing pintle hook.
I am not a big fan of putting bolts in the frame flange. I did use the 15605 on my three axle, but the hitch is about 2 feet behind the last necessary frame crossmember and we played the inside of the frame and used frame bolts.
On my tractor we are building a custom hitch that will utilize the old spring hanger bolts.

I bought a rear cab cross member from PowerstrokeNC that I'm going to make into a hitch. Granted I think I'll have to disassemble the rear most cross member to get it in between the frame rails but it looks to have enough clearance for the pintle. I'll take some pics when I get it started. It has to dry out some here first.

I think I am going to mount mine without the 3" blocks. If I turn the pintle it should work.
