TacticalDoc........Did you get the hitch installed?

didn't pick it up yet. I'm not sure if its strong enough and I'm waiting to hear what other members are doing regarding a hitch. Also, I have been doing a lot of other things to my truck.

if I remember correctly the distance between the frame is 29 to 33 inches...BUT I have to double check

I might go with one of the bottom 2 because they are cheaper and rated at 500/5000
I think the 51017-29 drops down further by 2 inches

After doing more research it seems like hitches for Fords from the late 1970s should fit the M939 (M923) series trucks...maybe! I haven't tried it but would be nice if someone can confirm this by measuring a F350 from the 70's. Does anyone know if this fits?

If they match up there are heavier class 5 hitches that I'd like to put on my truck

according to this the Ford F350 frame width is 34 inches. so, I'm not sure if they will work

I have all my metal to build a hitch on the back of the M909 after the Veterans Day Parade in Columbus - get started on it at least.

The bottom cross tube is 6 inch square 3/8ths steel - the remainder of the steel I have is 3/8ths.
I plan on towing nothing more than Debs jeep on a trailer with it so roughly the max weight I forsee is no more than 10,000 lbs.
When I get to it I will post up some pictures.

A lot of misinformation in this thread. I installed a receiver hitch for a 1980-1996 F series Ford on my deuce. The frame on my deuce, 818 and 931 are all 34" wide. The '99 and up ford F series are too wide. There are a lot of threads on this issue with the part number.

Built this for my A3. I bought just the recvr tube from E Trailer. Had it welded to a 3" crossbar with some gusseting. Made bolt on side plates that lined up with existing holes in the farm of truck. The pictures show the first set of long side plates. I fount the placed the hitch to low-so made shorter ones and bought an aluminum adjustable drop hitch. I used all grade 8 hardware. The electrical device is a 24 volt to 12 volt trailer adapter-one end plugs into truck. The other end plugs to trailer pigtail. Works great-with exception of no electric brakes portion.

They are both class v the 15400 has a 2" receiver and the 15800 has a 2 1/2" receiver. When I install mine I plan to add 3" spacers between the hitch and frame to drop the height a little more.

The dimensions on the Amazon website generally are for the box.

Also per Curt the drop from the top of the hitch mounting surface to the top of the receiver opening is 6 5/16".

I plan on ordering one today and mounting it over the winter.

Please tell me more about the wiring adapter.

And can it be hooked up for brakes? Like if you had a brake controller in the cab? Or is that option out completely?

Let us know how it goes. You will need a drop hitch or something else to lower it.

Curt 15605, 15400, 15800 wI'll all fit a 923..they are made for a 34 inch frame. The 15400 has a drip of 6 5/16 from the top to the top of the receiver.

That will not be enough to clear the pintle hitch

Yes it will. It is less that 12 inches from the top of the frame to the bottom on the pintle hitch. This hitch mounts on the bottom of the frame. I will probably build a hitch but any of these hitches would be fine.
