I feel left out with my XM813, can I call it an A0? Then when I single it and put air brakes on it with ABS I can call it an A1 and then when I put CTIS and a Cummins 6CTA(zero of course) in it I can move on up to an A2.
Steel Soldiers now has a few new forums, read more about it at: New Munitions Forums!
M939 series, which includes vehicles like your M923 and others like M925, M927, M936, etc. are like this-I'll use your M923:Clinto; What would an M923 be called if it had 11.00's on it? Even if it had the A1 designation. Not that I know for sure ,but I've seen trucks for sale under the A1 designation for sale with the duals. I understand and agree with your heads analogy, but for an entire vehicle with multiple different configurations, the comparison to me isn't a fair one to make. What are the differences between the models? IS it just more than the spare tire carrier and the positioning of the bed? There is also a difference in the exhaust mount, not that is a major thing, but yet it is a difference. So for the community ( even new guys like myself that recently found the difference) what should we call them? Just M923?
Holy cow batman! My Google is stronger than Doghead on this. It is a M931A2 with a armored cab and this is where the confusion came in at shelby. Someone was sorting trucks and had A0, A1, A2, A0P1, A1P1, A2P1 listed to sort them out.Nothing comes up with a Google search. What is it?
Doghead the suffix would be used to separate the different trucks within the series, as in turn in of all M939 and M939A1 trucks but not to include any M939A2 trucks. This thread title is confusing and uses incorrect nomenclature, I think.
M939 is a series of trucks, not a specific model, therefore there is no suffix applicable(AO, A1, A2).
Won't find that Unicorn but I can find you a M9XXP1. If they have not all been destroyed. How about we post a reward for anyone with a truck data plate that has M9XXA0 (in the M939 series of trucks) on the dash. No, not a made up replacement either.

I've been guilty of this in the past.As this is close to the right thread, there is NO M900 series trucks!!!!!
M939
M915
M998
ect...

And after my digging around this morning and past discussions with transportation folks I believe that "basic" might be a better and proper way to designate the standard M939.I have an '84 M923.
Not to throw gas onto the fire, but I did see it described as M923 Basic in one of the TM's.
