Thanks to everyone for the info. Both of my wheels are in pretty bad shaped, which means that they must have been parked with the cabs in direct sunlight most of the time. Surprisingly, the '86 M934 is in just as bad shape as the '66 M185A3. Thanks again...

the steering shaft nut is loosened almost all the way
so the wood is pushing on it
i soaked it with penetrating oild and put that thing on
every once in a while i would tighten it more
two days later i heard a noise that sounded like a cross between a bull whip and a gunshot
that thing had popped loose
if i hadnt put the shaft nut back on it would have taken out the rear window.
