802a main fuel pump woes

I was looking for an Airtex E1074 fuel pump for my 802a to replace the Facet 40193. Apparently they are made of un-obtanium.

Can't seem to find anything on the E1074 pump -- Airtex help line wasn't too helpful on the E1074.

So...... They (Airtex) suggested the E8135 pump. They "said" that the specs for the 1074 were the "same" as the 8135.

Now, the GPH/PSI for the Facet is 10/30 (LV-HP) and the Airtex 8135 is 35/~9 (Hv-LP) which seems opposite of the original Facet specs.

Has anyone had any luck substituting a different model Airtex pump on one of these units?

Howdy,
The 800 series TQG has 2 different fuel pumps. The older style is a square Facet electric fuel pump. The newer style is a round Airtex E1074 fuel pump. This is the primary pump location item. A lot of the units already have these mounted, or have been replaced with the round Airtex fuel pump.

MEP-802A fuel pump (primary)
MEP-812A fuel pump (primary)
MEP-803A fuel pump (primary)
MEP-813A fuel pump (primary)

The picture below shows the components.
NSN 2910-01-565-9234 E 1074 PUMP,FUEL,ELECTRICAL 24V (pump only)
NSN 2910-01-553-6571 FILTER ELEMENT,FLUID (small barrel filter only)
NSN 2910-01-491-1340 PARTS KIT,METERING AND DISTRIBUTING FUEL PUMP (full replacement kit = pump, filter, and steel line piping*(approx. 4 inch piece)

I also talked with Airtex about the unit. They are hooked with Southern Automotive. I called them, they want nothing to do with it, unless you are buying 100 units.

The NSN 2910-01-491-1340 is the full Facet replacement kit. It has the pump and the little 4 inch hard line connector.

I wanted a full kit as a spare, but not finding it. :( At one time some were sold here ( old listing )

I've got a few of the Facet pumps, but I've found too many of them that are in "New, DOA condition". I've taken them apart and got one or two working, but I'm suspicious of their ability to deliver enough fuel at 100% load.

I have a request to Southern Automotive, and we'll see how or if they respond.

Airtex didn't even want to talk about and barely acknowledged that the E1074 pump even existed. There are absolutely NO specifications available for that pump.

I've thought about substituting the Auxillary pump for the main pump, but they are polar opposites in regards to pressure and GPH

I've been looking for a spare as well. The Airtex 8135 pump suggested is 24v, but it's a gasoline pump. Bad idea. However, I have found the Airtex 8131 is commonly available, cheap, 24v, and rated 14psi, 35gph. Looks like a good alternative. Going to have to swap to AN fittings however as the pump is supplied with barbed fittings. High pressure/low flow for aux pump and low pressure/high flow for main pump makes perfect sense. Remember the main pump is just a lift pump, used to keep the injection pump suction under positive pressure and prevent cavitation/vapor lock. Most of that fuel is recirculated back to the tank.

If I remember correctly, the main fuel pump is high pressure, low volume whilst the aux pump is low pressure High volume.
The Airtex units must be manufactured to an order, not to inventory.

Airtex recommended 8135 when I called them. But perhaps they were just trying to get me off the line and get back to their Pokeman Go.....

Willy,

How did that pump work out for you? I found and attached a link below for all the specs on Facet cube style pumps. Looking at the specs pump 40151 is low pressure 4.5-9PSI and high flow 32GPH, where as the original 40193 is high pressure 30PSI and low flow 10GPH. Just wondering if that pump has worked well for you or not?
