Legally I believe you're obligated to. 24 to 12 converter and brake controller should solve this easily.

Practically i don't think it's really going to have any effect on stopping distance. I've towed deuces (14k or so) and my 1ton pickup (11k maybe - welder in the bed) and not noticed them back there..

Edit - XM1073 pintle trailers are rated for your skidsteer, and are low enough to let you load it. They're airbrake and 24v which solves the compatibility issue. And you can get them for around $1000.... or a very similar trailer off a 600 GPH ROWPU.

Went thru and gave this puppy a new IP and she doesn't mind towing the grinder to job sites from the yard. Sometimes 50milea each way. Grinder is 77,000lbs

Pintle towing is upwards of 25,000 before the truck isnt going to like it. And your seat is going to beat your spine thru the floor. I have a 12k empty trailer behind my 923a1 and tows deuces and 5 tons on it just fine.

So what would you say the long term reliability would be towing under 20k mostly on road 400 miles a week
Ive did it for 60k miles in 10months. You need to add a large transmission cooler and do away with the heat exchanger especially in the summer. Heat killed the 2 allisons i went thru. The air to air i used dropped the trans temp from 230 to 160 grossing at 55/60k.

It also makes for a happier engine.

I did 960mi on Saturday about 20hrs in the seat total

What size cooler did you use? And if you have any part numbers and info on what it took to do it, would be much appreciated
Member 155mm has an ad in the classifieds for a big trans Cooler for 50. It will help.

Wes likes to modify and upgrade. The truck has a cooler, but Wes sees room for improvement.

I leave mine stock.

Wes is a very good source of information for what works and what doesn't. He puts more miles on his 5ton than any 5 people I know. There's no substitute for sample size...

So the truck doesn't come with a cooler?
The truck comes with a heat exchanger. Major difference from an air cooler. With a heat exchanger the trans fluid is cooled by the engine coolant. The coolest your trans temp will be is the temperature of the coolant. This is fine for short heavy hauls and most other times.

The exchanger creates an issue with long heavy hauls and slow hard pulls where there isn't much air flow across the radiator. You end up with a viscous cycle of heat that can't be dissapated. Coolant temperatures rise in turn raising trans fluid temp. Torque converter heat is dumped into the cooling system which goes through the engine. And on and on... The whole system becomes heat saturated. Parts become fatigued from the constant saturation and prematurely fail. The piston liners are cooled by the coolant. They don't need the extra heat in the system from the torque converter.

The other option is an exhanger bypass. It can be done with a single valve, an extra line and a couple of fittings. The Allison automatic will still need the exchanger in the winter months to help warm the fluid. I'll be doing this to mine after the rally this month.
