One of my sets has a tag on the engine that says it was bored +040 over and rods are at -020 under. That engine was clearly rebuilt in 2011 according to the sticker. Oil and fuel filters are still painted green - never changed. Yet the hour meter reads 6000+ hours. I highly doubt those hours were put on that engine and filters never changed. The air filter is looks brand new.

Sounds like yours just had the engine rebuilt and no other work performed. Tier resets change out a lot of items and make the unit "like" new.

I have MEP-804B coming from PA, mounted on a M200A1 (single wheel not duals). Does anybody have the actual outside fender edge to fender edge measurements? THe plate shows 93" wheel face to wheel face. (a transporter is asking me, but I'm 1100 miles from my newest beastie) Thanks in advance.

If the set had tier 2 Reset, there should also be a riveted tag, with that info on it.

You have a PU, Power Unit. What number is it, and we can look up the TM for it, and it will give the measurements for the PU. Be nice if you had a picture of the PU Data plate.

Howdy,
This Technical Bulletin has all the information regarding what happens to a Tier I and Tier II reset.

It's a good read to understand what happens and what gets changed, inspected and/or replaced. Covers 2kw to 200kw

Howdy,
What's also helpful is finding specific part names and NSN numbers.

It also has all the info about the fuse updates on the gen units.

The last few pages also list all the TM numbers per unit.

Howdy,
Something to read and understand what a RESET unit is. Also a great source for names and part numbers.

PDF page 29 has the MEP-8xx 5kw and 10kw fuse mod. It also has the ME-8xx 15kw and higher fuse mods listed too.

Thanks a bunch Mike for locating & providing this! If you happen to come across a similar TM for the MEP-00x series, jump on it!

Thanks again--looking forward to reading through this one as I have a few 802s & 803s and at least one or two are resets.

Daybreak, I feel stupid asking this, but how do I determine which is page 29? I saved it as a PDF, went to that and looks for page numbers. Just see the govt. designations on pages. Want to make this fuse mod and would love to find the instructions. Thank you.

Open the document with you PDF reader. Look someplace on the page, and you will see the PDF reader page number. For instance, 1 of 23 pages. Then scroll down until it gets to page 29 of however many pages are in the document.

Cape, the only stupid question, is the question not asked.

Guy, thanks for the tip! I use a Mac so i needed to poke around a bit to figure out how to show page #'s. But I found it. Will take care of that mod when I get the unit in a couple of weeks, along with a whole other list of checks to get this thing up and running.

I have a 2011 MEP-803A coming in two days and have been reading SS way more than I probably should! Thank you all so much for the good info!
My unit does not have any reset tags, and after reading this thread I am wondering if I should be looking for this mod on my unit or should I expect to do it myself as a preventive measure? It sounds like a problem I definitely would like to avoid!

Just look to see if there is a fuse holder and fuse to the left side of the A1 Voltage Regulator between A1 and the reconnection switch.
If it's there then you have the fuse mod.

Howdy,
After the date of the fuse mod, it was incorporated into new units being built.

So around 2007-2008 it was put in at the factory.

If a unit is sent to Depot to be reset, that is 1 of the many items which is accomplished.

If a older unit was out in the field, the mod was supposed to have been installed by the operator. It is something which should be installed. It is best to double check and make sure. If you do not have it installed, I would suggest you do not run the generator until you install the mod. All the information and parts needed are in the manual.
