Fuel in CUCV

I have noticed that some people use waste oil from an oil change or ATF and other mixtures. Can this be done in a CUCV as well as those other MV's?

Not without modification to the fuel system (if you want it to live for any length of time). Some people use ATF as an addative for IP lubrication, but I've not heard of anyone burning straight used motor oil.

I was told that burning 5% used motor oil would be ok, as long as your filter it first.

The pumps are very sensitive and don't even like the ultra low sulfur road Diesel... be sure to use a additive...

So I need to use an additive when I fill up. Do they sell it at any auto parts stores? Where can I get it other than that CK5er?

His brand...not sure where but not up here in the butt end of nowhere where I live. Only one brand of diesel fuel additive up here that I could find so I ran that. Then he became a vendor on CK5 and got some good reviews so I purchased a pint.

Just about any auto parts store and most gas stations have some form of additive...but some are good and some are crap.

Alright. Because I am going to need some fuel. It came with a half a tank but since I've been charging it and running the truck for the batteries and starting it and checking it out, it is time for some fuel.

Eh, I've been running the store stuff for over a year and a half with mine. No downsides and know lots of others who did the same thing. I just figured since his was reputedly better and price wise worked out better for me I'd give it a shot. If I ran out of his unexpectedly I'd not have a problem putting one of the "big name" brand diesel additives in it until I could get more.

Legal disclaimer: watering down road fuel is tax evasion so this info is for off road use only. If DOT dips tank, same charges as running red offroad fuel

You should always run some additive in a db2 and db4 pump, they weren't designed for ULSD and will eat themselves alive. Lots of folks have great luck with tcw3 (marine) 2cycle oil as it is low ash. I run half quart per full tank and half a dose of power service silver bottle in my 6.2s. I recommend not using straight used oil or atf due to the particulate matter unless you filter it.

You have to let the waste oil settle and not use the bottom of the drum. Then filter down to 1 micron, some swear by 5 tho. Helps if you heat it.

There is a great write up in the 6.2/ 6.5 section on dieselplace about this. I've been a member there for around 5 years. I'd link it but unsure if that's against forum policy.

WMO and WVO guys have ran over half WMO thinned with gasoline and the rest diesel. Veggie oil need thinned like this also and will coke the injectors over time and doesn't do well in the cold. Ymmv Goodluck!

My son-inlaw used to work on CUCV's back in the day in the Army. He said the federal government always had them using Power Service 1080-06-6PK +Cetane Boost Diesel Fuel Supplement Anti-Freezer.
I figure if the mechanic that worked on them said to use it I will too. Every fill up I add it.
