HEMTT wheels on FMTV?

I've got a M1088a1 and would like to look into putting HEMTT wheels on to widen the stance. I think I'll pick up about 3" per side which should put it right under 102". I could be off with the dims, it's been a while since I measured it.

If it requires any machining, etc. I can do all of that at my shop.

Has anyone done this?

Did you ever mount the HEMTT wheels on your FMTV? Where any modifications necessary? If so any tire rub issues and what size tires did you run? Anyone else have experience with this?

Thanks

HEMTT WHEELS. Bringing this back up to see if anyone has experience with it.

I recently purchased some Goodyear AT-3A 16R20.

I read lots of posts for rim use on the other trucks and didn't see much for comments for use on FMTV'S

Most common looks like, stud length, rim centering style, lug nut style.
I'm hoping to use the offset to retain full steer, lock to lock.

1) HEMTT wheels on FMTV?

2) Will the CTIS still be compatible? Even with slight modification? ( I'm still learning this system and how the air moves through the axle to the tire)

3) I noticed the tires are approved for up to 12" wide rim. Is there factory military rims that wide? With CTIS? Was thinking this width would help some with tire height clearance between the rear tandems. Although I've seen they clear but are very close.

Thanks to all.

You are going to rub in the front no matter what you do. You would need to make the ctis compatible

I know it may look good, but is it really worth all the effort and rub?

By rub, do you mean, due to the diameter with the 16s? Or on turning, which is what I believe would be avoided with the HEMTT wheels with less back spacing.

Others with FMTV wheels and 16s have spoke of making wheel spacers, although I believe they just run them with rubbing.

Trying to gauge the work, offset benifit. Since I will need to mount the tires anyway.

Turning. It may work fine. Just keep in mind that spacers put additional stress on the hub and components.

So do wheels with less backspace.
Installing a HEMTT wheel would be like running a 2-1/2" spacer behind the original wheel.

I like the idea of getting that spacing with a rim and back spacing, rather than a spacer. Especially that size on a larger rig.

Im curious, of stud length and lugnut style required.

And CTIS hardware.

It doesn't sound like it's far off from being done.

I can put one on an LMTV tomorrow. I've got a 395 on a hemtt wheel laying next to the truck

Very cool. Appreciate it. When (if it gets the green light) I get mine on I'll get some info on the forums for all. I'll get the overall height and see what cruise/rpm change it is.

Im going to search the TM's to see how the air routes through the axle, hub and to the rim tire.

Learning more each day. Getting drawn in more each day.

Exits the tire thru the oversized lug/stud assembly. Would be easy enough to make the ctis work if you have any knowledge of jic, inverted flare fittings

Got the tires today. I had the same feeling when the truck showed up. " Whoa, This is much bigger than I expected" 😁

Hoping to find some more info on the HEMTT rims.

I've been happy with the ride of the old tires. Hoping to get the same if better with these. Looking at doing the antifreeze balance.

Also will be checking shocks to see what shape they are in. Looking at the Monroe Class 8, or the Rancho adjustable.

I've tried searching, due the HEMTT rims ever come up with multiples at auction?
Seems like some of that stuff is listed by part number. I haven't quite got proficient at that system yet.

@simp5782 not sure if still available to look at the general fitment with the rim with the 395 is available. Stud length, lugnut requirements?

Do you happen to have 7, if it looks good?

Started to see what is all about. Just as when the truck showed up, then the 16s. They are much bigger than I expected.

Split one of the old rims to get the valve stem and ctis hardware out to see what will be needed to fit to the HEMTT wheel.

I thought the ctis thread on assembly to the valve stem was the same as a car. Is it also part of the JIC family.?

Dry fit of wheel face and tire. It will require some adjustments as others have done.

Looking forward to putting them together.

Needing some input on valve stem / ctis

Fmtv valve stem is about 1" short and needs 1" more offset to work on HEMTT wheels

First two pics. Factory valve stem has the smooth part to seal on the 90* o-ring. In the haltec catalog, it looks like this is a one off style.

Other pics. After looking at the M900 ctis, it looks like they have a fitting that threads on and seals to the face of the valve stem.

Is there a name/style for that fitting?
Seems like I could get standard turret valve stems in the dimensions I need and hook up the CTIS.

Thanks

Finally got them done.

Cruising with 16s, 2600 RPM is 68MPH. Cruise @ 50 - 55 is around 2100 RPM. Based on an app. Need to calibrate the speedo.

Plenty of clearance between the rears.
100.5" track width on the front.

With the rim offset, no rubbing on chassis components. Still had (need) to mod the step and mine has the hydraulic reservoir. Had to remove the mud guard and cut the excess bracket.

Made up the valve stems to have correct fitment.

Also noticed the tires had weight glued in on the inside. Never seen posts on that before.

Seem to ride fine, but hoping for improvement as they get run. Then look at beads or antifreeze.

You can definitely tell the extra weight is there. Takes me and the wife to lift them from horizontal. I think they are coming in between 500-600 lbs. Took about 4 hr per assembly to break down, remove beadlocks and assemble the new set up. The 16s are very narrow, we had to Jack them apart to get the beadlocks in. Then the rim halves are far enough apart you have to clamp them and get the nuts started. Running them in little by little takes about 20 minutes running the ugga duggas.

Overall, we are pumped to be done with that phase.

I forget..... are these aluminum?

hope you will share your part numbers needed to make these rims work on FMTV
