M1009 Both Disks Seized....

I've looked for an answer, but all I've found One side seizing not both at the same time any ideas of why this would happen, everything is new as of 2016 except for the Proportioning Valve, any help is greatly appreciated.... 73, Scott

So new calipers locked up in 5 or so years?...nuts! I'm assuming you popped the bleeder loose or cracked the line to see if the pistons can be pushed back in...my guess is the pistons rusted in place...what brake fluid did you use? Some brake fluids need changed more than others...I'd guess dot 3 though so that isn't that bad with water...possible rust or goo in the brake lines or even the rubber lines falling apart on the inside jamming up the pistons...I'd probably take the calipers apart and see what's going on just to see if more flushing or whatever is stuck can be found.

I think he's referring to phenolic pistons that are used in calipers...technically plastic just a designed material for caliper pistons.

With wheel jacked up crack bleeder. If it releases it's a hydraulic issue. Seen rubber hoses collapse and hold pressure, MC, Etc.... If no release then it's a mechanical issue at each wheel. (Unlikely, but never say never)

Yes, I have seen this, too. The hose collapses on the inside and acts like a one -way valve. Looks fine on the outside.

If I'm doing a major brake overhaul, I figure the hose is just part of the package that needs to be replaced.

Flex line collapse is getting more common, used to be it only happened to older lines, but have had a relatively new one collapse recently, due to poor manufacture, I assume.

Regarding the DOT 3 fluid, if there was any residual DOT 5 in system, this could cause piston seizure. I mixed them once in an on road emergency, and newer calipers siezed a couple months later.

O.K. here is what I found, the left side brake hose is kinked, so both are going to be replaced as soon as my NAPA gets them tomorrow morning, as for the pistons they seem fine no problem getting them pushed back in with the bleeder cracked open, if it is the kinked line on the left side I still dont get why the right side is effected, I'll let everyone know what the outcome is as soon as I get the hoses replaced.... Thanks
