Where did you find the steel brake line kit? Or did you bend them all?
I made the frame lines meeself since they’re pretty straight. TNJ MURRAY has all the axle lines with steel braided coil armor. Except for the front axle, which I also bent myself and reused the coil wrap off old lines. Looks factory! The hardest part is the myriad of line clamps.

Was this taken on the moon? It occurred to me that all I need to feel like I'm there are more pictures like this. Do more of this please. How far away is the missile launcher and all the tanks on display? Your truck sitting beside Big John would be something. Even the legion on the way to the range had some MV stuff sitting around. Having pictures of that beautiful deuce around Yuma MV's and sites sure warm me up........is there an old steam locomotive still sitting downtown? Do I sound like I miss the south?

Having onboard air to fill up after you drop tire pressure on sand sounds like a good idea. Do we need to chain those rims when we air them up even though they're on the truck? A locking air chuck and a gauge 30ft away always gives me comfort. Get er' stuck.

Dave, that photo was just in front of the mountain range next to the VFW that housed the Patton tank. The Missile Launcher would be a little further out by about 10 miles, but after 2 hours playing around I had to go home for dad duties, doodies.....

No cage required when airing back up from a trail. Once the bead is set at initial fill from a tube/tire change, everything is safe. After doing several tires now and even cutting one off a rusted rim (that took 4 hours) one is able to really understand the construction of the lock ring design and the physics involved with that tire bead. The key features here being the lock ring is a girthy 2 inches deep (or wide) and the beefy construction of the bead itself. Which is comprised of rubber encasing what equates to steel winching cable but much thicker strands. Simply put, the bead acts as a very stiff braided steel CLAMP that once around the locking rings inner surface, keeps the locking ring from spreading open and flying off. The bead is not able to really stretch in circumference but is obviously very flexible torsionally such as when breaking it down with a duckbill or bead machine.

It's funny to hear you talk about wanting to come down because we are looking so hard at going up. Maybe we will cross path's someway and find an equilibrium. There's some old mines here i've been itching to go exploring more. Last time we had the kids with us which meant photo shoots no deeper than mine entrances at most. They're wonderful, dark, chilly time capsules. The government and BLM have been slowly closing them up by dumping concrete in the entrances. Kinda sad, I'd like to see more of them preserved even with the inherent dangers of exploration involved. Anything worth doing will have risk.

Last day working for the CooCoo Pah tribe is tomorrow. So we've got some fingering out to do because the bills and life never stop.

Cab and transfer case bushings replaced, no more shaky shake. Burned 25 rods of 7014 welding up carrier on the “chunk project”. The jeep guys call this a Lincoln locker but I’m partial to Miller myself. Ready for assembly….

Replaced last two cooling hoses on intake manifold (weepy) 6 new gaskets, flushed block and radiator with CLR and added new coolant.

Of course she ALWAYS has surprises. Missing bolt on magnetic starter relay, replaced. Frayed relay wire dangling a prayer, replaced. Passenger side spring pack has 10 leafs, drivers side has 12. This would be the cause of the mean lean to one side……

More small wins, replaced rotted running board with the one included by Will Wagner. Also cleaned and painted wheels.

I found some treasure hiding between the jerry cab holder and the tool box. We have old school beer pull tabs, a moussy beer bottle cap which was a non alcoholic beer popular in Europe. A plastic razor cover for shaving, GIs would often shave using the deuce mirrors standing on the running boards. The grand finale being a 1970 dated 5.56 round.

She had some surprises for sure, but it’s all part of the adventure. She deserves to be pretty too so work begins on the beauty stuff.

The big question is do we update to CARC style 383 green or do a little more prep work and go 24087 semi gloss like she wore in ‘65

Time to fix the hard top! In the meantime, I highly recommend running around topless. It’s the most fun you can have with your pants still on.

Thank you to Will Wagner and Craig at the American Military Museum in South ark Monte Ca for selling this to me.

It’s a 65 non winch, runs and drives but needs some typical maintenance. I just brought her home today from LA to Yuma. Shout out to FASTNOVA for transporting promptly and reliably.

Truck has civilian hitch welded And bolted on as well as a civi trailer plug spliced in. Kinda ugly, will be cutting this all off. 54000 miles which is likely very accurate. This truck was driven!

Converted to SPIN ON oil filters and did its first oil change, got 7.5 gallons of very fuel diluted oil out of it. It stumbles a bit on start up and when returning to idle so I’m betting the FDC is kaput.

I bought 25 feet of DOT line in both sizes to bypass the FDC and begin replacing all fuel and eventually air lines.

Overall I’ve got my work cut out for me but I bought it as a running project. Brakes come first.
Will Wagner was kind enough to throw in a lot of spare stuff including a nice refurbed radiator and extra spare tire.
Congratulations! I just got the hankering to buy a deuce but I think I'll watch how you do for a while and see if I'm up to it.
