Another Starter!!???

Went out to start my M1009 yesterday, after not starting it for about 3 weeks. Had plenty of battery power. Started fine the last time. The starter made a grinding, then clicking, then a whirring noise and began to smoke heavily. I shut off the starter right away. If this the starter, it will the fourth one that I have had to replace. Anyone have any thoughts on this issue? Thanks in advance

Is your starter bracket missing?

Had a new starter installed by local GMC dealership and that was all that was needed. I purchase a Delco starter and it purrs like a kitten now. simple fix

And you crawled under the truck to verify that the rear support bracket is in place?

Not all starters are created equal.
You usually get what you pay for quality wise.

But even with a good name brand that cost a lot, that doesn’t mean it won’t go up in smoke that quickly either.
But the chances are much more remote than the really cheap ones out there.
