I have 2ea. 5k's and one 10K. this 10k i got from my neighbor where it's been sitting outside for a few years. I got it running and it sounds fine, it indicates 240vac available but it is not charging the batteries. I believe it is the rectifier that has a small plastic container on the side of it for 2ea. small automotive style fuses.
Does anyone know where they go?

May of 1969 is date of issue, a 4A084 mod SF 10-0,
but it looks like any mep 10k I've dealt with for years.

This lack of charging affects the oil pressure guage (intermittant) , I don't know if the Hour meter is reading, I have a -14 manual but am looking for a start point.
I plan on using the 3 phase to run my lathe till i get my shop set up. sure will appreciate a clue on where to start. I'm sure what is behind the pully wheel (for pull rope) at the front of the generator is ok, i blew it out, it was pretty clean, I'm real unsure what to measure for output from there and i suppose it goes to the rectifier from there, then batteries, guages etc.

yes, item 7. There are two under that transparent cover plate (#6) it'll take me a couple days to get photos on here. I'll see what sort of a TM I can find but when I was looking at them a 4A084 wasn't seen, not on a first pass.

took 5 photos with my cell phone, sent them to my e mail address and only one shows up. i measured 26-36 vac from the pully at the front of the engine and measured it going into the rectifier, nothing is coming out of the rectifier no matter which way i measure it. I'll paste in a temporary or else just buy the thing from eastern surplus i guess ................. i saw they had one on there for sale a week or two ago?

I should of gotten the other TM when i ordered a new voltage regulator ($38 but $48 to ship it !!!! ...... anyway, i've a idea that since it was run with no oil filter inside it the pressure switch may of activated so i'm tracing that back to the appropriate relay.......... this would no doubt be a easy issue for someone that actually knows electricity, (i just play with it) but i think i'll solve it......... maybe?

$48!? Does that particular TM weigh 40 lbs. or something? it should qualify for USPS media mail for like $5, sounds like someone is trying to rip you off.....

didn't order the TM, I should have though. what i ordered was the voltage regulator, that small box atop the 10K gensets with the cooling fins on it that guyfang sent the diagram of above this. so that voltage regulator new is $38 but cost $48 to ship it here (oregon idaho border) ........... I believe now that of the 3 wires going into that box two are 24-36 vac from the motor and that third wire must hold battery voltage to tell the vr (voltage regulator) what to do.
I'd now guess my vr is ok since there was no on board battery voltage showing at the vr, just about 30 vac from the 'dynamo' thing under the front wheel/pully/rope crank wheel thing. i said this so as not to confuse it with the magneto powering the 4ea. spark plugs.
true, that vr is about the size of 1 or 2 pop cans and about the same weight........ (full) I find it hard to believe it costs $48 to ship out here and that was the cheapest fed ex option, there were no other options but i agree, a TM could go in the mail box and nothing would beat the cost of the postal service. probably the same for that vr too, it could go in a small box ........ I suppose shippers avoid the usps because it may add more logistics to their operation?

FWIW: I think with some careful cleaning a Digital Touch up might improve. This is just twiddling a few "knobs"

yea, after looking at this, there is a LOT of improvement needed, standing there in the sun with the phone it looked kinda hopeless but seeing it here on the screen you're right, it would for sure clean up better, as for doing it in photo shop or something though that's mostly beyond me but i could clean the data plate up a lot better. the main data plate on the genset itself is there but totally not readable, one can see the lines where ink was, not engraving or stamps, and all that is baked away, that would of been the main data plate for the whole genset
