Next, I installed new alternator pulleys so I can use 1/2" wide FleetRunner V-belts instead of the factory 3/8" belts. Hopefully these will hold up better and eliminate the famous 6.2 belt-squeal. So far, so good. They seem to be nice and quiet. The real test will be when I put some miles on them this summer.
Holy schnikes!! I never knew they made a supercharger for the 6.2!

My upgrades pale in comparison....just some basic maintenance. I've been getting the CUCV ready to bring out of winter hibernation.

I had my dash apart to replace the CUCV voltmeter with VDO 24v & 12V voltmeters. I also replaced the heater controls with a new one from LMC since the old one looked pretty ratty. While everything was apart, I cleaned all of the contacts on the cluster circuit board, and I added LED's from NAPA for the gauge lighting and voltmeters. I thought it turned out pretty well.

How do the 1/2” belts work in the other pulleys?

So far, so good. I really haven't had a chance to drive it and put some miles on it just yet, but I have run the engine and it seems to be working just fine...and not one hint of belt squeal. Now they do stick out of the crank, water and PS pulleys just a slight bit, as they don't fit flush like originals, but only very small amount. If you look at my photos, you can get a idea of how they fit.

1986 1009, 6.2 diesel with a 6.5 turbo. Been my daily driver for almost a decade.

I was about 800 miles into a road trip to Utah when I heard a loud bang, lost power brakes and steering, and both alternator lights came on. I assumed a V belt broke and maybe knocked some other belts off when it whipped around so I carefully pulled off, grabbed my tool bag and popped the hood. All 4 V belts were hanging loose around the fan/water pump pulley and the crank pulley was totally missing.

2 of the pulley bolts were completely missing and the other 2 were sheared off sub flush in the harmonic balancer. It was evening on a Saturday in rural Utah and every shop is closed on Sunday. So I spent 2 hours wandering through the cactus on the side of the highway in flip flops and shorts and eventually found the pulley on the far side of the median. It took an hour or so using the knurled handle of one of those tiny right angle screwdrivers to deburr the pulley, I stole an M12 bolt from the power steering bracket and an M12 stud and nut from the intake manifold and bolted the pulley back on using the 2 good holes in the balancer, decided to continue my trip and now I'm 35 miles from the nearest paved road in the backcountry of Canyonlands nations park posting this from my Starlink.

The pulley is slightly bent (ordered a replacement to my house that'll be waiting for me when I arrive) and those 2 bolts are still holding on for dear life. I've got another 200 miles of off road and 900 miles of highway before I get home so wish me the best 🤣

In over a decade of daily driving and occasionally living out of square body Chevys I've never heard of a crank pulley just falling off lol. And I guess I'm going to put my air drill and bolt extractor set back into my tool kit, because I'd sure love to get those broken bolts out of the balancer and put in good bolts before I drive 10 hours home on the highway but there's just no way with the tools I have out here

And, yesterday afternoon the transfer case fell off. After the pulley repair on the side of the road last weekend I made it another 80 miles on the highway and 65 miles off road through Canyonlands national park and a new problem developed.

I was cruising through the sand doing probably 35-40, came around a corner and there was a huge rut and then a rolling bump. Slammed the brakes, went over the bump and probably got a foot of air, and it turns out even with fancy Fox shocks my 1009 is not a trophy truck. The NP205 adapter split in half from the impact force and weight of the transfer case. The drive sleeve came off the transmission output and the case was sitting on the skid plate held in place by just the driveshafts.

I jammed it back into place with a bottle jack and a pry bar and ratchet strapped it around the crossmember to keep the case forward and the drive sleeve engaged on the transmission. Then I drove it 20 miles out mineral bottom road and to the highway to meet a tow truck.

I ordered a new adapter from Advanced Adapters in CA, which is being delivered tomorrow. Hopefully I can get it installed quickly and be back on the road.

There was no other damage, the suspension and steering seems to be totally fine, when I get it home next week I'll take it in to the alignment shop and see if the axle is bent at all but I think it should be fine. After almost 8 years and tons of miles the truck has never left me stranded, now it's twice in one week. Though I guess I am partly to blame 🤣

Remind me to never loan you my truck. You are tough on your rides.:cautious:

Haha. I put this drivetrain in 8 years ago and it's been problem free. And the stock th400/208 was great before that.

Just some bad luck, and some bad driving on my part with the transfer case breakage yesterday. But I understand if you don't want to lend me your truck 🤣
