Hello,
I am troubleshooting a 20K Mitsubishi generator. The generator starts but I am only getting 35VAC when I should be getting +/- 240VAC? Does anyone have an idea where I should go? I have checked the mechanical side of the generator and everything is running normally. I have checked the breakers and fuses. Everything checks out and nothing is tripped. I am leaning towards the stator but I am unsure as I do not have any manuals or diagrams for this generator. It has a pancake system on it and it is in a really tight space inside a vehicle. If anyone has an idea or some guidance I am all ears. Thank you for the assist.

Can you share a bit more information please? Model number, hours, generator head manufacturer, known servicing details, and its history, e.g. have you seen the unit deliver 20kW?

All the best,

Thank you for the reply. It is a PowerTech 20K gen. Model PTS-125ASE. The hours are 38,000. The last time this generator ran and pushed 240VAC was last November. I had to wait a while on a fuel pump. I just got it and installed the fuel pump and now the generator starts and runs but it only pushes 35VAC.

Do you have the manual? Have you tried the included flow chart for troubleshooting?
How old is this genset? I'm not finding any reference to that model number on the PowerTech site.
Did you call Powertech to ask for advice?

A few photos might help, particularly of the voltage regulator and the genset head under the end cover.

All the best,

In the first post he said he has no manuals. It sound like you are not getting initial excitation. You could try inducing 6-10 VDC to the exciter, wires F1 & F2. But unless the wires are marked, it might be hard to find the right place to excite the gen set with out manuals.
