My foster brother gave me the 37 for my 20th birthday, so I didn't pay anything for it.
He paid either $10 or $25 for it - I forget which. $25, I think.

I bought the XM708 ten years later. I paid $125-$150 for it because it was unusual - I forget which on that too. I've forgotten where and when I got my two parts 37s. It was a long time past, over 50 years ago.

I don't know what OG means, but it wasn't a hobby. I used them both for search & rescue and as daily drivers, similarly to how I used my 1946 Piper J3 (1965) and 1947 PA-11 (1966). I bought my first car in 1965, a 1955A Thunderbird.

I think I was the first person to put a Dodge 318 In a 37 back in the late 60s, and also the first civilian to install a KS-22 Detroit Automotive No-Spin differential and carrier. The KS-22 was quite something in its day.

Edit - the 318 was a bit anemic, though a vast improvement over the 230 Six. After a couple of years I replaced the 318 with a 375hp big block Chevy and have been happy with it. Both of the V8s were easy installs that retained the PTO location and didn't interfere with the LU-4 winch jackshaft.

If the 230 in the 708 has gone south on me (I won't know for a few months yet), I'm thinking about replacing it with a reversible installation of a Dodge 360 Magnum bored and stroked to 410 c.i. From memory, I'd need to replace the input shaft in the NP420 with a longer one from an NP435 - but don't hold me to that - it has been a long time since I last did it.
