Crap, I cant afford that much for a light switch, though it does look cool. My nephew is on leave right now, maybe he can find me one when he gets back.Ha,Ha. He said they still have plenty of those Deuces at Camp Lejune. They have them parked and dont use them though.

I guess a person could get some off battle damage vehicles.

Alrighty then, here's what the switch looks like when you hit any button....

Those lights last for about 20 secs.
Then press the mode you want (in this case stop light) and it will flash blue, you have about 5 secs to press enter.. when done it looks like this....

Alrightythen. That pic is going to cost me some jack as before I had no intention of buying one. Now I need 2 of them. Just for giggles though, there were 2 on Evilbay yesterday for the $130 buy it now deal!

Yanno, I'm damn proud of the way I can maipulate that funky 3 lever switch with one hand. I also like the fact that the commoners can't easily figure out 1) that its a headlight switch and 2) how to work it! But after seeing those pics, I've added them onto my must have list. I know I'll be scorned for this but I'm also working on a slightly modified facory dash panel that will house an extra gauge and more instrument lighting. That switch will go perfectly with my blue dash lights!

I guess I referred to that a little off. I refer to the non MV types as commoners.Maybe yuppies and soccer moms would be a more accurate term. I had a guy over here the other day driving a 41 Willys coupe with a blown big block. As cool as his ride is, he commented on my deuce saying that the dash is to behold. He was overwhelmed by the simplicity and layout of the deuce dash. I was touched!

Well dad gummit, those blasted pics caused me to spend money. I just bought (not received yet) the new push button light switch for me tractor. Got a decent deal on it at $85. Sorry gang, it was his last one. Now I'm going to be watching the mail daily until it gets here. Can't wait get it installed so I can blow in sick and take an all night deuce cruise. The cool factor of this switch is way up there. For some of the newbys, go back to the beginning of this old thread to see some pics of the switch installed including night time pics.

Last time I was in Albany, there was a crate of electrical stuff stripped out of vehicles getting overhauled. Lights, switches, etc. I believe they fill the crates, then throw them in the dumpster. If that is the case, I might be able to "short circuit" the dumpster route. You know, be environmentally conscious, not fill up the landfill area with recyclable materials.
I think the LAV's use the new switches.

I always try to see the good in the original designs of things, that's why I like to say that a lot of times you can't make something better, just differently.

A few questions for you guys with money to splurge on these new things:

The dash illumination on the M35 and other MV's was made dim and red so that the night vision of the crew would not be effected, now I'm wondering how bright the LED lights are.
Usually from an angle they are not overly bright, BUT how are they straight on?
At night, in total darkness, if someone from the outside looks at the driver when he is operating the switch, is the driver's face illuminated?
Do the lights show up when the sun hits the panel?

"Static sensitive"??? Doesn't sound like mil-spec design to me. Perhaps it's only before it's installed.

Checking the newest TM I have, the TM 9-2320-392-10-1 (5-ton FMTV) dated 31 May, 2000, I found that the old style switch is still covered, no digital switch. (It does have an exhaust brake, though :)).

Good point Bjorn! Once I have it installed i'll figure out some crude tests to see how it adds up. I'll not be getting rid of the 3 lever switch fer sure. Robert, glad to see you're environmentaly conscious. BTW if you speak with Bruce in AL see if he got my deposit.

Yep! Bruce got your deposit (e-mailed me yesterday).
As an afterthought, I am looking into making up blank dash plates with the proper beaded edge for these trucks. I am planning to re-arrange the gauges to give me room for an EGT down with the small gauges. I may be able to roll in the bead with a Pexto machine, or make a urethane die and punch them out on my old 10 ton punch press (1947 model). If I start making some, I will post the info and price for a blank dash panel.

A thought on gauge layout! I haven't measured yet but I think you can move the bright headlight indicator to the center where the low air warning light would go and punch another hole in the lower left corner for one more gauge. Westach (sp) makes gauges to whatever you want. The can make a dual gauge that will go in that spot with both boost and EGT. I have an extra dash panel and was going to get around to it one day, just haven't. Given the space one could probably come up with a better layout. There are 2 different dashes for the multifuel. Both feature the same number of gauges but are layed out differetly. Gotta find that pic.

You may want to think about adding one more "illuminator" light too.
Tom Bauer had a custom panel for his deuce. It even had a clock as I remenber it.

cool i think

well i feel really good i think, the m35 ('67) i just drove home to day has one of those fancy switches in it. its kinda a pain tho as you need to press enter after the lights you want on. i am new to the posting here and this is my first mv so i drove a few miles before turning on the brake lights. guess i should have asked here before my recovery of my truck. oh ya the little blue leds are fairly bright at night.
