I put in some wellman G070 glow plugs in the cucv and they immediatelly swelled and stopped working. I will have to check to make sure the resistor did not fail but in the mean time I need to get the other plugs out. Does anyone have a glow plug removal tool I could rent or borrow? If not I will have to purchase one tomorrow. Anyone that can help please PM me.

Thanks
Chuck

Wow..that totally sucks. I was thinking of putting those Wellmans in my M1009 as the AC60's take twice as long to heat up. But if they are prone to swelling, then I think I'll pass.

You are correct sir. I need the extraction tool. It all started with the cucv not starting as fast as it should and not starting on one glow plug cycle. I know what this means so I tried to pull the connectors off to check the glow plugs for continuity. Two of the plugs were so rusted at the connector that the connector broke off. I had the Wellmans as used take offs from my junkvee. Immediately I noticed the glow plug cycling was not right. The relay would activate for a second then go off again. This kept up. I checked and there was no voltage drop at the plugs. It usually takes a few seconds for the voltage to drop to 12 volts but the cycle was so quick it did not give it time to drop. I then jumped the relay and noticed not drop in voltage at all. The volt meter was also not showing the normal fluctuation when the glow plugs were getting power. At this point I checked the glow plugs for continuity and there was nothing on the driver's side bank. I still had some good AC plugs so I was going to put those back in. This is when I found all the wellmans swelled. The only thing I can think of is the resister is bad and not dropping the voltage. Everything else checked out good today except the temp sensor. I will check that after I get the new plugs in. I think something else happened in the system to cause the plugs to go. I had new wellmans in my old cucv and had no problem so I do not think it is a wellman problem.

Chuck,

If Mark can't find his, let me know. I just bought one and luckly never used it. Figured it was better to have on hand than not. If I had not had it, I would probably have had 8 swollen plugs knowing my luck (LOL).

wellmans are prone to swelling. I have heard alot of horror stories about them in the 6.5 forums I belong to. I only run 60gs.
2x on the junkvee. If they are 24 what you describe is exactly what will happen. Some idiot put 24v glows in my CUCV. And they wondered why it wouldn't start cold....:-x

Hey guys, my search FU is weak today. I have several Wellmans that have swelled and I am wondering how you get them out? I see there is mention of a tool here, what is it and how does it work? A pic would be great! Thanks.
