soanyoldways ...

I need to put a new J pipe on my Deuce ... its a turbo.

Because money's a little tight ... I went "shopping it around" at a number of vendors that are recommended on this 'site.

I WILL NOT MENTION ANY NAMES NOR IS THIS THREAD TO BE MISCONSTRUED AS A ATTACK ON ANY VENDOR!!!!

But I noticed a spread of pricing ... One shop sells them for $137.00, another offers j pipes at $179, and two others offer them at about $220.

THAT is quite a difference.

I need to know ... is the price a reflection of quality?

... or are all the pipes basically the same...

I did a search on this topic and couldn't find an explanation ...

I purchased a NOS one from Integrated Parts Systems for $67 two months ago.
WOW!!!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! You just help me squeeze a little more outta my modest budget.

but ... you added more range to the price spread.

$67 to over $200.

I wonder what accounts for this price spread.

greedy vendors that want big $ for the same parts. you might find a korean import in there for cheap but for what 99.9% of the ppl on this board use the trucks for it won't matter 1 bit.

No ...

I just want to know if some folks have a better quality pipe .... or maybe made by Walker or NAPA or something.

Price is SOMETIMES an indicator of QUALITY ... but not always.

IN your search for the best deal, you must have noticed that you can get them in either steel or stainless steel.

Have you ever noticed that gas station prices vary too? That must drive you nuts.

Not every vendor buys their product at the same place for the same price...

All the pipes I have seen are the same. I believe someone makes stainless pipes, I could see them being expensive.

No... I just asked an innocent question ...

$67 to $220 is a very large spread.

Here is the link:

Integrated Parts Systems - Military Parts

I went to the exhaust pipe section and noticed it was no longer listed. You may try calling them. When I got mine it was well packed but had a plastic layer shrink wrapped over the entire pipe. Was a bitch to get off.

Good luck.
Now that IS interesting ...

When I read your post ... I raced on over there to check the price ... and the ad was there.

But ... like you said ... I just checked ...

and the listing is gone.

I guess they sold out just as I posted this thread.

The shrink wrap is probably the reason you got it so cheap ... all the other folks had to put labor into removing it.

I just visited. That looks like Clark truck parts. At least YOU got the good price. They have listed so many things wrong and changed their prices when I contacted them, I won't bother anymore. One time he tried to tell me I saw the price wrong, whatever.

Thanks for sharing the info though.

Yes Chris, it is Clark. The online order confirmations come from IPS but the shipping is Clark. I have had good luck so far but I have not ordered so much from them. When I call them the young man I get is always very pleasant. Go figure...

Have you tried Kublo's?

I don't feel bad by not buying overpriced parts. Its not a status symbol in my book. More $$ for diesel.

Lots of places sell tubing.. I bet if you looked you could get one made cheap.. stainless and all. Local muffler/auto shops can be the best source of parts.

That might not be a bad idea. I'm gonna give that some lookin' into.

If memory serves correctly ... I think I remember seeing a shop up in Ellijay that might be able to do it.

There ain't much around in my piece of NoGa ... I'm kinda out in the woods.

For 200-250 you should be able to get the whole exhaust system. $180+ is high.
