I was at Letterkenny Army Depot yesterday picking up some trailers for our Sheriff's Office thru the LESO program. I saw a couple of hard top HMMWVs there and wanted to know what they were used for. I searched and found that it was a kit that could be ordered thru supply to convert soft tops but I just wondered if there was a specific use besides being drier and warmer than a soft top. First two pics are ones I saw yesterday, the last is one I found on a image search.

When used with the hard doors it made it easier to secure high value items in the vehicle.

The warm and dry aspect was a plus too.

Most supply sergants had creative ways to purchase creature comforts for the Command Staff.

We got a couple of tops to test out in the mid '90's in our TACP unit. I didnt like the look of them then, and still dont. But like WM said it did make the truck a little more secure.

Thx guys. The security aspect is a plus and the storage on the sides would be nice. If I am able to get them they would be used for off road law enforcement response such as disasters or remote crime scenes. These two had soft skin doors but I could acquire the hard doors later.

I have a quick question for those familiar with these Helmet Hard Tops. I have found a supply of them at the local depot that are available through the LESO program and would really like to have one for our recently acquired M998. However, I can not find any info on the listed NSN other than the Cage code is for Amtech. I've tried all my searches and can not find a match for this number, including the NSN list available from Amtech. The NSN number is 2510-01-583-6456. If anyone has any idea what model this is it would be greatly appreciated.

Do a search for Cap, Truck, Mounting or the NSN I listed. Columbus had quite a few as of this afternoon. I think I have the same NSN list from Amtech. When you search in Columbus, make sure you select all 3 listings, but these were all at LTS.

Helmet Hardtop Information

Sgt Mike - the Hardtop associated with NSN 2510-01-583-6456 is a mid-size cargo bed cover which fits on a M1152 HMMWV. I can provide further details.

Kirk,

Thanks for the information on this product. We ended up not getting the top, would not work with what we need.

Hard tops don't go to any particular HMMWVs in any particular units. You'll find them all over the Army (probably other services too). They don't have any specific purpose either. It's just a hard top.
